Earthlust: Stylish, Sexy and Safe! And a GIVEAWAY!

earthlust bottles

I had a quick chat with Earthlust founder Allison Tryk. She was inspired to start a company after the birth of her first son, mainly because she felt, “protecting his health and preserving the environment for his future were top priorities.” Her company, Earthlust, makes stainless steel water bottles and not just any water bottle—ones that are hand made from high quality food-grade stainless steel, which is naturally safe unlined. I asked her how she got this off the ground as a new mother. “It was a slow process, I was sleep deprived and always questioned my reasoning! Essentially it came down to making bottles I wanted for my family but couldn't buy because they weren't available yet.”

The bottles are ethically made in China, because there isn't a factory in the US that makes bottles with high grade stainless steel. I wondered if this was something Earthlust was interested in changing. “Unfortunately, I don't see it happening anytime soon. People would have to pay $40+ per bottle... Even if they would we can't find anyone willing to make them for us.” High-grade stainless steel is much more expensive than its competitor materials: aluminum and plastic. But there is also no need to worry about BPA, Phthalates or PVC with these stainless bottles!

Earthlust is also known for creating some fabulous designs on their bottles. Using non-toxic paints, most of the artwork has nature-inspired themes and are a limited edition. Her newest line has vintage qualities: a bicycle, chandelier, and cameo are a few of the objects. When I asked Allison how the idea of rotating designs came about and whether artists could submit samples of their artwork to her, she answered, “The idea is to have them fashion driven so designs are current. However, it’s been really hard to discontinue favorites. We'd love to work with new artists!”

Allison recommends cleaning the bottles with baking soda or diluted white vinegar to preserve the clean, neutral taste over time. Use a brush as needed. She also hopes to reintroduce insulated bottles again. We’ll have to look out for them!

Living in the Bay area is blissful. I had to know where she eats her favorite burritos and where she favors the coffee. Both reside in the amazing Mission neighborhood. The burrito: El Farolito. The cup of coffee: Stable Cafe.
