My Mom

I am going out on a bit of a limb here...I am not sure this post has a place on MightyNest and I am reserving the right to take it down in the morning. I am not one to put myself out there this much...but here it goes.

This is a picture of my mom and I when I was a little boy. It is one of my favorite pictures. Yesterday would have been her 63rd birthday. We lost her suddenly just over 5 years ago. A day doesn't go by that I don't think about her. She raised me as a single parent and instilled in me a strong belief in helping others and living a life of meaning. She had a huge heart and just gave non-stop. Everyday that goes by I realize even more how wonderful she was. I am still learning from her and suspect I will for the rest of my life.

So what does any of this have to do with MightyNest? Well a year after losing her, inspired significantly by the way she lived her life, I took off my suit and tie, chucked the corporate job and set out with Kristen to build MightyNest. I wanted to help people and do something that mattered. Working with Kristen to provide the best home we could for our kids, and reflecting back on how difficult it must have been for my mom to raise me as a single parent, I wanted to do something that made other parents lives a bit easier.

As I sit here tonight unable to fall asleep I am comforted by the thought that my mom lives on in me and my amazing kids and by all that we do. I am confident that she would be proud of what MightyNest stands for and I am proud to add it to her legacy.

So that is a little about me and a piece of what led to the creation of MightyNest.

Is there an important moment in your life where you made a change for the better?
