Avoid flame retardant sleepers (check out these Vintage Garden Kids Long Johns by Under The Nile)

It has not been an easy journey for us  in the area of sleepers for babies and toddlers.  We were up to our ears in fleece footed sleepers, thanks to my super generous and bargain shopper mother in law.

But I knew in the back of my mind that these sleepers were doused in chemical flame retardants that could be harmful to my babes.  Thankfully, many were used and washed a billion times.  But try as I might to see when they were “washed out” there was little data on this.  And I tried not to think what “washed out” meant.  To our well?  To our little pond?  Super!

So, one day, while the kids were blissfully role playing downstairs, I ran like Rambo with a plastic bag and sacked every footed fleece sleeper in sight.  I shoved them deep in our closet, because no one could ever see them again.  See, my 4 year old is quite fond of them.  So they had to be hid. Fast.

Anyway, I replaced them with close fitting, cotton pajamas with no flame retardants.  The way you know this is they say on the label:  “Wear close fitting, this garment is not flame resistant”. These pajamas by Under the Nile are a perfect solution to the flame retardant worries.

Organic cotton, better for baby and the earth:  check. No flame retardants:  check.  A green company:  check.  You really can’t go wrong.  And then you can avoid the chemical sleeper Rambo roundup in your house.
