The sound of this xylophone is incredibly satisfying and melodic and most importantly, NOT annoying. We find this instrument to be highly useful in the house because everyone can play it, including a 6 month old, just learning to hold tools. This is an excellent addition to a music box!

This is such a sweet little instrument. You can place it on a flat surface or hold it in your hand, and use the drumstick on the inside or the outside. It is loud enough to please the player but not loud enough to be annoying. It actually reminds me a little bit of the sound of steel drums, but more subtle.
