Product Details

Unlike most crayons which are made of petroleum paraffin wax, Crayon Rocks are made from U.S.–grown and processed Kosher soy wax. combined with natural mineral pigments to create beautiful colors and a natural ground rock that gives the crayons their body. This creates a crayon that goes on smooth and blends easily. Made in USA.

This set contains 64 crayons in a boxed set (4 of each of the 16 colors): red, pink, blue, sky, green, grass, egg yolk yellow, sunshine yellow, orange, peach, purple, light purple, brown, tan, black, gray in a sturdy box with a slide top and a 16 cell tray to keep colors separate. Designed for classrooms with 24 children. One box will last a full school year with daily use.

Certified non-toxic and conform to ASTM 4236 and are CPSIA compliant. You can eat our crayons if you want, but PLEASE don't inhale them. They ARE a choking hazard. Not for children under 3 years of age or those who will put them in their mouth. Use with an appropriate level of supervision.

Since a child's first writing tool is usually a crayon, that crayon should be one that encourages him or her to use thumb, first and second fingers in a tripod grip. This is what makes Crayon Rocks a wonderful tool for fine motor development. Because of their shape, they do not allow kids to easily grip them in a closed fist which deters fine motor development and are also more resistant to breaking. Children with cerebral palsy, autism, developmental delays and various forms of learning disabilities have tested Crayon Rocks in the classroom. Parents and teachers of special needs students often tell me how much their children love them.

Crayon Rocks
Owned by special needs teacher of 23 years, Barbara Lee invented Crayon Rocks after being inspired by Jan Olsen, OTR, and the Handwriting Without Tears program. She learned from Jan how important it was to develop early a good tripod grip. Handwriting skills depends upon this. Since a child's first writing tool is usually a crayon, that crayon should be one that encourages him or her to use thumb, first and second fingers in a tripod grip. This is what makes Crayon Rocks a wonderful tool for fine motor development. A really good crayon should take very little effort in applying great swaths of color to the paper. In fact, that crayon should be as much like paint as possible. Great colors that go on smoothly and easily, helping little fingers to grow strong as they spill their creative ideas on to paper. Barbara wanted a coloring tool that students with grip strength problems and disorders effecting fine motor control could use AND enjoy. Children with cerebral palsy, autism, developmental delays and various forms of learning disabilities have tested Crayon Rocks in the classroom. Parents and teachers of special needs students often tell Barbara how much their children love them.
