I received this as my monthly box. I had another green detergent I have been using. A couple weeks ago I tried the stain stick and it did pretty well. I have been doing some loads with Meliora and this week, I used it for all the laundry. I was amazed at how soft it was and still just as clean as ever. The sample I received was unscented. I think I am going to try the lavender next. Great product!!
We wash our little guy's clothes exclusively in Meliora Unscented. Great cleaning power, EWG A rating, and for this Chicago girl, it's a hometown product. Love the company!
I've been using less toxic laundry detergent for years, but have always been pretty underwhelmed by the efficacy of the "natural" stuff. I always end up adding borax to help the natural products perform better, or - and I hate to do it, but I have dogs and you know how that goes - adding one of the commercial laundry sanitizers to help with odor. I really didn't think the Meliora detergent was going to work well - at the best, I figured it would be equivalent to the products I've been using.
I'm very pleasantly surprised though! You only need a tablespoon of the powder, and after reading the reviews, I dissolved the powder in very hot water before adding it to the washing machine. I've had no issues with remaining product on my laundry, and the cleaning power/odor removing power of this detergent is pretty great. It doesn't leave residue or a weird funk like the stuff I was using. I feel like it gets the residues of past cleaners out of clothes too.
I'm really happy with this stuff - even when I wash the dogs' laundry (I do use very hot water and add a deodorizer if there are any "accidents" on the dogs' stuff). Just dissolve it in a pot of hot water and pour that into the washer once the cycle has started, and it works great.
I normally use a name brand free n clear liquid laundry detergent. Meliora works better... I have been using it for nearly a month now. My sensitive skin is not bothered & My stinky (construction worker) husband’s clothing actually smells clean. They literally smell like nothing. 🙌
I was skeptical at first about how little product I had to use, so I started off with a full scoop for a week or so then went down to the recommended 1/2 scoop, just to see what would happen. Same results. Half a scoop. It really is all you need.
I will purchase the lemon laundry powder again.
I am so impressed with this Laundry Powder. I have 2 teenage boys, one who plays sports and this leaves his clothes smelling 100% clean! And I love the recommendation to use white vinegar as a fabric softener, better for the environment and so inexpensive!
I will never go back to other Laundry Detergents.
I'm so happy to have discovered a plastic-free, all-natural laundry soap for my family. I'm very sensitive to synthetic fragrance, so I'm delighted that Meliora only uses essential oils in their soaps. The Lemon Lavender Clove has a refreshing scent that doesn't stay in fabric. I have an HE washer, so I put a scoop into the drum before adding in clothes. I've heard that cold water doesn't dissolve the soap well, but I haven't had a problem with that. I mostly wash with cold water and my clothes come out clean and fresh every time. Now I'm just hoping they'll offer a fabric softener soon!
I have five kiddos and we live in the country on a homestead. To say our clothes get dirty is an understatement. I have tried sooo many natural detergents, even making my own, that I went back to a big box free and clear one (which still didn't always get everything out). This laundry powder works sooo good! I have the clove scent. But, its really not strong at all, like I have to bury my face in my clothes to smell it. I personally like that it's not overwhelming. Like with all detergents, I do feel like about every 6 months I'll need to strip my clothes. But, I have this on auto-renew because I love it. Do yourself a favor and get some.
Have gone through a lot of “green” laundry soap and nothing could handle stains, smells, larger loads and damp towels until I tried Meliora. Love that there is no plastic and the cost per load can’t be beat! I also recommend the stain stick and the oxygen brightener as complementary products.
I purchased the unscented version. I was shocked that you only used 1/2 of tablespoon. Seriously such a small amount, so I was skeptical, but our laundry came out really nice. I also followed the suggestion on the container to use 1/4 cup of vinegar as a fabric softener. I thought that was odd, but found out it works great too. I washed everything last week when we got this - sheets came out fresh and comfy. Towels - even the stinky dish towels came out nice and fresh. It is cheaper than any other detergent you'd find in the store and seems like it is going to last just as long if not longer for our family. I would highly recommend that you try it.
First, I really appreciate the packaging. No giant plastic container. The laundry powder does work. If you have stains you have to of course pretreat but it cleans and leaves clothes smelling fresh.
I never used powder before and it seemed like it would be a big deal to switch...lol why didn't I try it sooner? I love that it doesn't come in a big plastic jug! It works great and the ingredients are awesome.
I love the cardboard and steel packaging - I was so sick of plastic jugs everywhere and I'm trying to cut down on the amount of plastic packaging I use. I really like how clean my sheets feel after washing in this - no residue left behind, and no smell - just clean laundry.
I love this detergent! Clothes come out very clean and smelling great. One thing I've missed about traditional laundry detergent is the smell but I hate all the chemicals. This detergent is the best of both worlds!
I was a bit worried that it wouldn't be as good as my tide pods, but I want my daughter to grow up without so many chemicals around her.
I was even more worried when I read the instructions on how little you needed but decided to give it a try.
My clothing came out perfectly clean, super soft and smell great. I won't ever be going back to tide pods. This is cheaper, cleaner and does a much better job.
I know people love this soap and I ordered it because I was already running low on my usual one, so I figured I'd eliminate that expense and use the opportunity to try a "green" alternative.
I'm using 2 scoops because my mind keeps telling me it's not enough, even though the directions indicate to use HALF a scoop (it's a small scoop). It smells great and it does feel soapy but I'm not seeing it actually remove stains. It's definitely cleaning because you know, there's water and soap in the washing machine, but it's not very good fighting stains. I'm having to use another product in combination with this one.
Seems to work pretty well, smells great, less waste.
My only complaint is that instructions refer to a scoop, as in "use 1/2 a scoop", and I didn't get a scoop. Now one of my tablespoons from my kitchen is sitting in the laundry room, which is annoying.
I am a very active person. My jobs entail me getting very dirty and insanely sweaty. I have an old awful top loading machine so regardless of what soap I use I always do 2nd rinse, due to its inefficiency. My nasty clothes come out amazingly fresh and clean.
I was worried this wouldn't work but it was perfect. My kids and I have sensitive skin and it didn't bother anyone. I purchased the lavender scent. I usually wash everything on perma press and I have had NO issues with stains and no need to rewash clothes. We live in a remote forest environment and my kids are playing outside regularly. And one is very messy with food still. I don't use fabric softener and everything is still soft. This container lasted 6 months for a family of 5. I have to wash my bedding, etc weekly due to allergies and it still lasted 6 months. I'm reordering. My only caveat is that when you open this container some of the powder can poof out so keep it away from your face.
It smells great from the canister but can't smell it on our washed clothes. And it's not dissolving really well even with warm water that it left some white marks on our clothes.
I really wanted to love this product but I just haven't. It does take a lot more than they claim it does. Other reviews quickly confirmed that for me. It smells great in the can but the clothes do not have a scent once washed. I guess I didn't allow the detergent to dissolve long enough because my leggings came out of with a white powdery substance dried into them. I'm not sure how this will work with my washer because the water doesn't start until the lid is locked. I definitely don't want to come back later to fill it with clothes once done dissolving. I'm really bummed that it wasn't what I hoped it would be.
I got the lavender scented powder and although it smells good, it does not dissolve very well. I have had pieces of it stuck to my clothes after washing/drying. My husband does not feel like it cleans his clothes well (he sweats a lot) although, I think it does a fine job for myself and my daughters clothes. I am going to try the Lemon scent, but if it does the same thing, I will be finding an alternative.
I was really excited about this laundry soap. I bought the peppermint scent and it was wonderfully scented in the canister. I gave it 3 stars because I had to use much more them the 1 TBlsp measurement per load to get and minty scent at all to longer on the clothes. While I think that the clothes were clean they didn't smell fresh. I really wanted to keep purchasing this but it's not for me.
This stuff does not dissolve all of the way for me. I do use warm or cold water when doing laundry…so maybe that’s my problem. I end up with residual white grit on my laundry, so I am not too happy with this product. I plan on trying something different because I’m really dedicated to avoiding the large, plastic laundry detergent bottles.
I really wanted to like this product because of the great ingredients and manufacturer promise that you need very little (this box is supposed to last 128 loads). I have tried using the amount as directed, but unfortunately had to rewash the clothes. This powder is good on something that is not very soiled/dirty, like bed sheets or relatively clean clothes; however, if you have a man in the house or kids that get stains, sweat and general dirt on their clothes, this product is not very effective, especially in cold water . I felt like clothes washed in hot water alone (no detergent) are cleaner than washed in the cold cycle with Meliora... I ordered their oxy bleach to try with the powder. Hopefully I get better results. Also, I got the Lemon scented product, however, cant smell any lemon. I just add lemon essential oil to my dryer balls:) Hopefully these guys can make the formula tougher :)
Very disappointed in this product. You must use hot water for it to dissolve completely which is worthless when running a delicate cycle. Also, it did not clean my towels as well and I found leftover make-up spots on washcloths. In general, everything was dingy. The liquid Biokleen they sell is MUCH better. I would not recommend this product to anyone who gets anything dirty. My sister tried it too with the same analysis.
