Bee's Wrap Sandwich Wrap

“Bee’s Wrap began with my love of making things…”  –Sarah Kaeck, creator of Bee’s Wrap

The beloved Bee’s Wrap has a new addition—the Sandwich Wrap!  Exclusively sold at MightyNest, this beeswax and cloth innovation elevates the everyday act of making and eating a sandwich.  It wraps your sandwich into a compact package, keeping it fresh until lunch when the reusable wrap unfolds into a placemat.  Try it once, and you won't look back! As part of this exclusive launch, we chatted with Sarah Kaeck, creator of Bee's Wrap about her inspiration, life, and how it all began.

Welcome to Bristol, Vermont, the idyllic birthplace of Bee’s Wrap

Sarah Kaeck and her family have created a blissful life, one that captures all the beautiful simplicity and romance of a time before food had qualifiers like "local" or "slow."

“Our family life revolves around the garden and kitchen,” said Sarah.  They grow their own vegetables, milk goats, and raise sheep, pigs and chickens.

Necessity is the mother of invention
"Finding a healthy, sustainable storage solution for our fresh food was important to me.  With the health and safety of plastic in question and its danger to the environment, plastic was no longer a viable option,” Sarah said.

As a result, she created Bee’s Wrap, a revolutionary plastic alternative made from organic cotton muslin, beeswax, jojoba oil and tree resin.  The natural antibacterial properties of the beeswax and jojoba oil keep food fresh and allow you to use the Bee’s Wrap Sandwich Wrap again and again, just one of the many differences between the Sandwich Wrap and a disposable plastic sandwich bag.

Double Duty

What started out as something Sarah made for her family is now a successful business.  She knew she was onto something when friends and family started reacting.

"People were really blown away and I felt that I had to find a way to make it available to more people," Sarah said.  "As a stay at home mother of three, I was also interested in bringing in additional income while being available to my children."

Her company isn't the only thing that achieves two goals simultaneously—so does her latest iteration.  When unfolded, the new Sandwich Wrap serves as a reusable placemat!

Just wait until you get your hands on it

Wrapping your lunch and tying the string around the beautifully embossed wooden button evokes old world charm, before things were made solely for convenience, to be disposed of after just one use.  Working with Bee’s Wrap is so satisfying.  The simple warmth of your hands allows you to soften and form the wrap right around your sandwich.  Once the beeswax cools, the material stiffens and you have a smart, tightly wrapped little package for lunch!

Making the switch from plastic wrap to Bee's Wrap

Bee's Wrap is a brilliant alternative to the rolls and rolls of plastic wrap the typical family goes through every year for lunch prep and food storage.  We asked Sarah for her recommendation to make the switch to Bee's Wrap and banish plastic sucessfully.

"As you might imagine we have quite a stack of Bee's Wrap in our home.  We use it for almost everything," said Sarah.  To be fully stocked she recommends the following quantities:

"Even if you don't eat sandwiches, I suggest having a few on hand because they work fabulously for cheese and veggies," said Sarah. "And it's just really fun to wrap the string around the bee button!"

It’s all the buzz

The almighty bees that create the natural beeswax are embossed on the wooden button of the sandwich wrap.  Sarah explained the distinctive scent simply as beeswax.  "The scent will change depending on the type of flowers the bees who produced the wax are harvesting from," she said.  After a few uses, the beeswax scent fades away.

A sheet of Bee's Wrap or Sandwich Wrap lasts for about a year.  What happens then?  "Bee's Wrap is easily composted," Sarah replied.  "And it makes great fire starter for your wood stove, bonfire or camping trip!"
