Choosing the right sunscreen for your family can be a complicated process. 

We all want something that will provide protection from the sun but with hundreds of choices, it can be difficult to sort through all the features and benefits. And knowing that what goes on our skin goes in our bodies, it’s important to choose a product that’s safe and non-toxic, especially if it’s going to be applied and reapplied throughout the day.

 

When it comes to sunscreen you have 2 options - chemical or mineral.  Most conventional sunscreens are chemical.  Chemical sunscreens do their job by absorbing UV light.  To do that, potentially harmful chemicals must be deeply absorbed into your skin and to make it worse those deeply absorbed chemicals often include concerning ingredients like oxybenzone, benzophenone, parabens and more.  Mineral sunscreens, on the other hand, create a barrier on top of the skin blocking UVA and UVB rays from penetrating the skin.
