Tame your entryway

Sure, fall is gorgeous and cozy and all that. But you know what else it is? MESSY! Between the wayward leaves, mud-caked boots and those pesky mittens, entryways and mudrooms are getting a work out. Now’s the time to get clean and organized before winter comes and things really get out of control. Here are a few ways to get started:

Bins, boxes, buckets and boot trays. What’s the best way to keep everything off the floor? Give it a place to live. A bucket for keys, bins for hats and mittens, hooks for coats and a boot tray for shoes. It can also help to leave a broom and dustpan by the front door for easy clean-up.

• Stock up on non-toxic cleaners. According to the EPA, the greatest exposure to toxic chemicals is in our own homes. Make the switch to non-toxic cleaners, which are just as effective but safer for the whole family.

• Invest in an air purifier. When the air gets chilly, we often close the windows. But doing so contributes to poor air quality in your home, which can lead to allergies, asthma, fatigue, bronchitis and more. Air purifiers can reduce coughing, wheezing, dry mouth, runny nose and even help with snoring. Read more about air purifiers here.
