10.20.12 Best BPA-Free Bowls for Kids

bpa free bowl post

Bowls are the the most common dish used when it comes to feeding young children and often, the surface of bowls takes a beating from whisking forks and scooping spoons. One thing we know for sure, plastic is not a material you want to "rough up" as this is often when chemicals are released into food, through scratched up and heated plastic bowls.  And yet, children are often subjected to plastics in their every day life that might contain dangerous toxins.

The safest materials to use when it comes to food are glass, stainless steel, silicone and wood. All of these choices are BPA-free, Phthalate-free, PVC-free, lead-free and formaldehyde-free.

GLASS: Duralex glass bowls are made in France from tempered glass, which is amazingly durable and safe. Tempered glass is 2.5 times stronger than standard glass and is very shock-resistant because it’s manufactured through a process of extreme heating and rapid cooling. We carry a variety of Duralex glass bowls for kids and adults: Lys bowls, fluted Picardie and Lys stackable. They’re 100% recyclable, great in the dishwasher, and microwave-friendly. Sold individually in a range of sizes from 4.75 to 6.7 inches in diameter.

STAINLESS STEEL: Constructed of heavyweight, high quality food grade 18/8 (304) stainless steel. This stainless steel bowl has a flat bottom for secure eating. Dishwasher and oven safe. Measures at 5" wide and 2" high, this is a great size for cereal and ANY vegetable or fruit that needs to be mashed for younger eaters.

SILICONE: Silicone bowls are made from an inert, rubber-like material that is safe, durable and pliable. Silicone is also hygienic, hypoallergenic and resistant to bacteria and extremely easy to clean. It can be safely boiled to sterilize and can be cleaned in the dishwasher. Silicone luckily doesn't warp or damage under prolonged exposure, can withstand both hot and cold temperatures and is resistant to age, sunlight, moisture and chemicals. Silicone has the capacity to evenly distribute heat and the ability to cool instantly after heated. Sold as a set of four bowls and each measures 5.5" wide and 1.5" tall. Microwave, freezer and dishwasher safe.

WOOD: Bamboo bowls are a terrific option with only one drawback: they need to be washed by hand. Each piece is ‘carbonized’ to a rich golden brown. This means that the bamboo is oven baked and involves no stains or dyes. Hand finished bamboo is treated with a food-safe oil for longevity. Bamboo also doesn't impart or absorb flavors and is tough to break if for some reason it falls off a highchair. The bowl is approx 2.25" tall and 4" in diameter.

Whatever your family's needs or preferences, there's a safe, BPA-free bowl for everyone. What material do you prefer using?
