I'll admit that I'm in a Mad Men state of mind which is making me hyper aware of advertisements these days. Especially the ones that are dangerously misleading. Of course, we're no longer in debate as to the health ramifications of smoking cigarettes but we still have a long way to go for many common household products.
One of those products is deodorant. One brand claims it's product,"Keeps You Cool, Dry, & In Control, So You Can Handle Any Situation!" Wow. That's a serious promise. The chemicals surely block the sweat and keep you dry but the "in control" part? Another conventional deodorant pledges, "Protection You Trust, Protection You Love!"
Protection from odor; yes. Protection from harmful chemicals entering your bloodstream; no.
The concern is a real one. It's important to know exactly how the body reacts to the scent-masking chemicals that exist in many deodorants. Let's face it- having a pleasant scent or the lack of a synthetic scent is preferable among many people. And so are having non-toxic pits. Read here for more information on the concerning chemicals in deodorants.
But it's summer. It's hot. And we naturally prepare to stay comfortable, cool and odor-free throughout the day and for many people, that inevitably involves using a deodorant. It's understandable that "natural deodorant" gets a bad rap. So few brands make a product that actually works and so many seem to make armpit odor even worse!
So here's one that works and is well worth a try.
SOAPWALLA. Referred to as, "the holy grail of deodorants," this one is masterful. Soapwalla deodorant cream is made with superfine vegetable powders, clays, and lavender, peppermint and tea tree essential oils. These ingredients work to absorb moisture, inhibit bacteria, and ensure a long-lasting and highly effective experience.
The consistency is like frosting although in warmer months it can liquify a bit-- just popping in the freezer for 20 minutes will solve this. Of course, there isn't anything harmful in here-- no aluminum, petroleum, talc, parabens or phthalates. And it's never tested on animals. And it's easy to use AND, it absolutely works!
"When I use it, I know I'll be fresh, stink-free, and even fairly dry all day long! It's hands down the one beauty product I can't (and don't want to) live without." Siobhan O'Connor, author of the amazing, "No More Dirty Looks," a Guide to Safe and Clean Cosmetics.
As you can see, we're excited about this deodorant. I even sniffed Kristen's armpit for quality control! And the the scent is not really feminine or masculine...just clean. So, it's a great deodorant for both men and women. If the idea of using your fingers to apply deodorant seems strange, don't worry, you'll be amazed at how easy it is to adjust from your old routine. Happy pits!
