8 Creative Ways to Use Ice Cube Trays

1. HERBS: This simple method for preserving fresh herbs is a really great way to keep the fresh flavors of your summer garden or the local farmers market – all through the fall and winter. When thawed or just heated right up from frozen, these frozen cubes work great in stews, sautés, soups, roasts and more. Learn how to freeze herbs in oil here at Tasty Yummies.

2. ALOE VERA: If you happen to get too much sun, try rubbing a frozen aloe vera gel ice cube for instant sunburn relief! Simply fill ice cube trays 3/4 full of aloe vera gel (and several drops of lavender essential oil) and freeze.

3. FRUIT: Perfect to add in the blender for smoothies, especially when you can freeze lots of freshly picked in-season fruit! Frozen berries are especially beautiful floating in summer punches or iced water.

4. COFFEE: Enjoy in an iced coffee without diluting your brew. Or add to homemade ice cream/milkshakes.

5. COCONUT WATER:  Coconut water can spoil quickly so freezing cubes is a great way to extend the life of coconut water. Coconut water ice cubes are also a terrific addition to smoothies or iced coffee.

6. LEFTOVER SMOOTHIES: Save what's leftover in the blender and freeze it for later. Stick a popsicle stick and make frozen treats out of fruit smoothies.

7. WINE: Didn't finish the bottle? No problem -- freeze the wine into cubes and add to a glass of chilled wine, sangria or to your next homemade tomato sauce.

8. GREENS: Freeze your greens to prepare for healthy green-powered smoothies. Each cube will pack a punch. Add in supplements too to make the morning smoothie making process a breeze.
