Organic Feminine Products
OK ladies, it’s time we had a chat...about your period.
We hate to be the bearer of bad news, but there’s something you need to know about the products we use every month. Have you ever considered what’s in those things anyway?
What You Need to Know about Your Tampons
Conventional feminine products, including tampons, pads, and panty liners, contain a toxic blend of chlorine-bleached pulp, polypropylene, polyacrylates and plastic. Tampons are manufactured from rayon fibers, viscose and other undisclosed ingredients.
And it gets worse. Most feminine products get their white color from a chlorine bleaching process that results in the production of dioxin, an organochlorine the EPA considers a known carcinogen. You may be familiar with the following dioxins or dioxin-like compounds: DDT, PCB, and Agent Orange. Dioxin is linked to breast cancer, immune system suppression, endometriosis, pelvic inflammatory disease, reduced fertility and changes in hormones.
Dioxin bioaccumulates in the body and can remain in the body for 20-30 years after exposure. That's a lot of bioaccumulating! Most importantly, these chemicals are coming into contact with some of the most absorbent tissues in the body; essentially, an express route into the bloodstream.
