A Safer Stacker to Love

10.21.10 A Safer Stacker to Love

Kids love stacking toys!  Especially curious toddlers.  I was so happy to get my Melissa and Doug stacker, a few years back, when my oldest was a toddler.

Then I noticed it chipping.  My daughter mouthed everything.

Then I heard that Melissa and Doug toys are made in China, and I thought of all that red paint.  Ugh!

Next I read that some of their stacking toys had been recalled in Canada, for containing barium.  Here's a post I wrote about it over at Non-Toxic Kids.

What's barium? According to Wikipedia (this was the best source I could find) it is a chemical element and:"All water or acid soluble barium compounds are extremely poisonous. At low doses, barium acts as a muscle stimulant, while higher doses affect the nervous system, causing cardiac irregularities, tremors, weakness, anxiety, dyspnea and paralysis. This may be due to its ability to block potassium ion channels which are critical to the proper function of the nervous system."

Yikes!  That is not a happy list.  Add barium to the list of things to AVOID.

So I was glad to see this little stacker here at MightyNest.  No paint to worry about.  I wish I would have had this cute stacker instead of my chipping, barium containing one. Sigh.

This one is about 4" square and 4" tall and has rounded corners, is sanded smooth and a light beeswax and organic jojoba oil finish.  This toy arrives ready to give in a USA made cotton drawstring bag.  Love that!

The boxes used to package Little Sapling Toys are 100% recycled (80% post consumer) and recyclable.  This is a U.S., family business that uses sustainable practices and offers safer toys.

Go for a safer stacker.  They are well loved (and chewed) by the toddler set.
