Homemade Applesauce? Easier than you think.
Here at MightyNest, we like to say, “Fall has it all”, and every now and then, “Autumn’s got ‘em”. We love everything about this season: pumpkin patches, corn mazes, farmers’ markets, homecoming games and the brilliant, changing leaves that make our great Lake Michigan even greater.
We didn’t forget apple picking. We love apples. So much so that we had to brainstorm what to do with the bushel (or three) we recently bought. Good thing we love applesauce. Believe it or not, applesauce is pretty easy to make at home. It’s one of those “seems-difficult-but-it’s-not” recipes. And when you DIY, you can customize your applesauce any way you like it: sweeter, less sweet, lumpier, smoother, crazy add-ins or totally traditional - it's all you.
We’ve rounded up our favorite tools and recipes so you can make an applesauce that will have everyone asking for more. Maybe three bushels weren’t enough...
WHAT YOU NEED
1) Apple Peeler, Slicer + Corer in one easy operation. A strong suction base and sharp stainless steel blades peel, slice and core apples as quickly as you turn the handle.
-
2) Stainless Steel Food Mill is made from 18/8 stainless steel with a wooden handle. Three interchangeable stainless-steel disks (fine, medium, coarse) work just as well for tomato sauce, baby food and riced potatoes. This multitasker can even take the place of an immersion blender, potato masher or regular blender.
-
3) Stainless Steel Funnel makes applesauce (almost) effortless. The oversized durable funnel is made from 18/8 stainless steel, is dishwasher safe and fits over standard-size canning jars.
-
4) Le Parfait Canning Jars feature the iconic wire hinge and famous orange rubber seal so you can be sure your applesauce is airtight and will have an extended shelf life.
