The Pickle Pipe is a simple one-piece waterless airlock that allows gas to escape as necessary without letting any contaminants back flow into the jar, and it screws into place using any standard mason jar band. Made of FDA food-grade certified silicone, the Pickle Pipe is the natural evolution of the mason jar airlock. Once screwed into place, you can forget about the Pickle Pipe for days, or even weeks. There is no need to "burp" your jars manually each day, fumble with multi-piece airlocks, or monitor the "moat" of water-based airlocks. It is truly a "set and forget" solution.

Pickle Pebbles have been specifically designed for use with fermentation and take the guess work out of your lacto ferments by ensuring your veggies stay below the surface of the brine thereby eliminating exposure to oxygen (which is the main cause of failure when using lacto fermenting methods). Pickle Pebbles PLUS+ are designed for use in wide mouth canning jars, and can also be used in traditional ceramic crocks. With the Pickle Pebble PLUS+, one weight is often enough to keep veggies below the brine. Dimensions: 2.75" diameter with 0.75" thickness. Pickle Pebbles are made of non-iridized soda glass which is completely inert and guarantees that no other substances leach into your ferment. 

The Wood Pickle Packer has been specifically designed for small-batch fermentation of sauerkraut and other veggies in both wide-mouth and regular-mouth mason jars. Measuring 10" tall, 2.5" at the wide end and 2" at the opposite end, our unique design allows both ends to be used for packing vegetables for your ferments. This allows the Pickle Packer to be used in a wide variety of fermenting jars and containers. Pickle Packers are made from all natural untreated Acacia wood and finished with a food-safe mineral oil to seal and protect. Acacia wood is known for its renowned strength (2x as strong as maple) and durability, and it is a sustainable and eco-friendly option. Pickle Packer Care Instructions: Hand wash with warm soapy and water only. Occasional oiling (using food-safe mineral oil) may help to lengthen the life of this product. Not dishwasher safe and should never be allowed to stand in water as it may damage the wood.

This is more of a review for the tops than the kit. I purchased a mini-kit (weights and tops) through the kickstarter for MasonTops and have been really happy with it. All components were really well made. I use the tops most frequently for a ginger bug that I use for fermented sodas; they breathe well and keep unwanted debris out.

Founded by childhood friends Phil Baron and Mike Bacher, Masontops started with a joint appreciation of Mason jars. Go to your cupboard: chances are you have at least 4 Mason jars tucked away. Although they've been around since 1858, Mason jars continue to be a versatile storage vessel, crafting tool, and decor item. We were so inspired by the utility of the Mason jar and allure of its vintage charm, that we decided to start a company to help people upcycle their jars. Masontops is dedicated to creating Mason jar accessories that turn Mason jars into beautiful storage solutions, easy fermentation vessels, coffee bean preservers, and whatever new idea comes our way. But for now, let's go back to the beginning. After having many frustrating experiences tying to ferment sauerkraut, we realized there was a need to simplify the process. We fell in love with the idea of fermenting in Mason jars: they were the perfect size for storing, easy to clean, and even easier to find. Some will say it was entrepreneurial spirit, others say it was the sauerkraut, either way, our creative juices started flowing and along came Masontops, Inc. First came the Pickle Pebble food weights. Food weights are a common fermentation tool, but Masontops found most to be too expensive, too light and poorly sized for Mason jars. The Pickle Pebbles are the perfect food weight for Mason jars to keep fermenting food submerged below the brine, which is necessary to prevent mold growth. Beautiful, sleek and made of all natural acacia wood, the Pickle Packer was the next Masontops product. The Pickle Packer food tamper and muddler fits into wide mouth Mason jars on one end and regular mouth on the other, making it perfect for pounding sauerkraut and shredded veggies in Mason jars. After getting to know the fermentation community, Masontops discovered a gap in the market: a simple, easy-to-use, airlock tool to automatically release gas during fermentation. So, we created the only one-piece airlock tool that requires no daily maintenance or water. The Pickle Pipe is an automatic airlock made of one simple silicone piece. As food ferments, it creates CO2 which is automatically released through the Pickle Pipe's one-way valve, ensuring your Mason jar doesn't explode from the pressure. The one-way valve also blocks oxygen from entering, preventing mold growth. Masontops products make food fermentation accessible to everyone, regardless of their experience level.
