why it matters
Cloudy plastic storage tubs leach petrochemical toxins into your food and our environment. Ever wonder why plastic storage tubs attract stains? It’s because the porous surface invites in oils and acids, then releases the displaced toxins and plasticizers into your food. This unhealthy exchange accelerates when the plastic is heated in the microwave or dishwasher or when hot food is stored in it. Plastic containers degrade and continue to get cloudier and release more harmful chemicals with every use.

“I’m always amazed at how much fits into the smaller container: you can fill it right to the top because of the slim fit lid. It’s perfect for toting tabbouleh salad or hummus for lunch, or a fried egg on an English muffin half for breakfast.”

A few bites of leftover salmon might not be a full meal, but add them to a morning egg scramble and you've got a quick & delicious lox fritatta!
Meet The Maker
Duralex
iconically French, impeccably sustainable
In 1945, Duralex invented the glass tempering process and the company has been manufacturing high quality durable glassware and tabletop products ever since. Duralex is the only glass manufacturer that makes 100% of their products in France.
The company is known around the world for its iconic tempered glass products and sustainable manufacturing practices. Glass is one of the most recyclable materials on the planet. Unlike boron-based cooking glass, this tempered soda-lime glass is fully recyclable. Duralex actively works to reduce its carbon footprint by buying its components locally to minimize transportation. By incorporating their own recycled glass into the manufacturing process, and using a state of the art melting furnace, they are able to reduce melting temperatures and use less energy. A particle filter mitigates furnace fumes and helps recover some raw materials which are reused in the manufacturing process.
Duralex’s products are famous for being functional, stylish and stackable. Around the world people enjoy drinking from the Picardie glasses which are known as the “original French tumblers.” From bakeware to dinnerware and everything in-between, Duralex’s full range of durable products support a more sustainable & stylish kitchen and table.
FAQ

Why should I make the switch to glass?
Glass is a non-toxic and recyclable material that’s better for people and the planet. Using glass storage keeps plastic out of landfills and toxins out of your kitchen. You can safely put it into the microwave and freezer. It won’t get cloudy or stain like an aging plastic tub, and even helps you fight food waste: it clearly shows you what’s inside so it’s easier to use food while it’s still fresh and good.

I’m inspired to upgrade my kitchen to glass. What are my best options?
We love both of the tempered glass Duralex food storage sets (square and round with lids). They both nest compactly for neat pantry storage. The larger containers give you even more options: the 36 oz and 68 oz sizes easily hold a few servings of leftovers. The 109 oz size is great for large families or larger items like a salad, leftover soup or casserole. Explore more storage options in the Glass Food Storage Collection, or discover our full line of Duralex products. You find a wide variety of kitchen solutions, from drinking glasses to plates and bowls.
+
But the lid is plastic... is that safe?
The plastic used for the Duralex lids is BPA, PVC, & Phthalate free so is considered a "safe" plastic that creates an airtight and leakproof seal for the containers. We appreciate the slim fitting design of the lid as it locks into place easily but does not sink or dip down into the container. The design makes it possible to fill the containers up to nearly the top but still avoid contact with the lid. We recommend handwashing the lid or placing on the top rack of the dishwasher, and removing the lid before placing container in the microwave.
